Metal Ceiling Systems for Retail and Commercial Interiors
Golden Goose Paragon Metal Ceiling
Case Study: Golden Goose, Paragon Singapore
Supply Bay supplied fine expanded metal ceiling mesh for the Golden Goose flagship store at Paragon Shopping Centre, Orchard Road. The expanded mesh ceiling was selected for its lightweight structure, ease of suspension, and clean architectural finish — delivering a visually open ceiling plane that suits the brand's contemporary retail aesthetic without the visual weight of a solid panel system.
The fine expanded mesh used in the installation produces a refined, semi-transparent ceiling surface. Suspended above the retail floor, the mesh allows light to pass through and diffuse softly, while service elements above the ceiling line, MEP runs, lighting tracks, and suspension hardware, remain partially concealed without requiring a fully closed plenum. This balance between concealment and openness is one of the primary reasons expanded mesh is increasingly specified for high-end retail ceiling applications in Singapore.

Why Metal Ceiling Systems Are Specified in Singapore's Retail and Commercial Sector
Metal ceiling systems are used across retail, F&B, hospitality, corporate, and institutional projects in Singapore for three consistent reasons: durability, design flexibility, and compatibility with suspended MEP services.
Unlike gypsum board or mineral fibre tiles, metal ceilings do not absorb moisture — an important practical consideration in Singapore's humidity, particularly in transitional spaces, food and beverage environments, and retail zones with frequent air-conditioning cycling. Metal ceilings are cleanable, do not deform or sag over time, and can be removed and reinstated for maintenance access without damage to the panel.
For contractors and architects, the specification choice between the different types of metal ceiling system depends on the acoustic requirement, the desired visual character, and whether the ceiling needs to allow airflow, conceal services, or both.

Expanded Metal Ceiling Mesh
Fine Expanded Mesh Ceiling
Expanded metal ceiling mesh is the product used at Golden Goose Paragon. The mesh is suspended as a continuous or panelised ceiling plane, producing a semi-transparent surface that allows light transmission, partial service concealment, and passive airflow through the ceiling zone.
Fine expanded mesh, with small diamond-shaped openings and narrow strands, is the standard specification for retail and hospitality ceiling applications where surface refinement at close range is a priority. The diamond-pattern texture of expanded metal reads differently from perforated sheet at ceiling level: lighter in visual character, with a directional texture that responds to light across the day.
Expanded mesh ceiling panels are lightweight, which reduces the structural loading on the suspended ceiling grid and simplifies installation. They are available in aluminium for maximum weight reduction and natural corrosion resistance, mild steel with powder coat, or stainless steel for applications where a premium surface finish is required.
Typical applications: retail store ceilings, restaurant and F&B interiors, hotel lobby ceiling features, corporate fitout feature zones.
Perforated Metal Ceiling
Perforated Metal Ceiling Panels
Perforated metal ceiling panels use a flat sheet substrate with punched holes. The open area percentage, determined by the hole diameter and pitch, controls the degree of visual transparency, acoustic performance, and airflow through the panel.
Perforated metal ceilings are the standard specification for applications where acoustic absorption is a requirement. When installed with a mineral wool or glass wool acoustic backing above the panel, the perforated surface acts as a facing layer that allows sound energy to pass through to the absorbent material behind, reducing reverberation time in the space. This makes perforated metal the preferred ceiling specification for offices, conference rooms, educational facilities, and F&B spaces where speech intelligibility and ambient noise control are design objectives.
Standard perforation patterns include round holes on square or staggered pitch, elongated slots, and square holes. Custom patterns — including decorative geometries — can be laser cut to specification for design-led projects. Open area percentages for acoustic applications are typically in the 20–35% range; higher open areas reduce visual weight but require a finer pitch to maintain panel structural integrity.
Typical applications: office ceiling systems, conference and meeting rooms, educational and institutional buildings, F&B and hospitality spaces, public areas requiring acoustic ceiling panels.

Laser-Cut Decorative Ceiling Panels
Custom laser cut ceiling panels
For design-led fitout projects where a custom ceiling pattern is part of the design intent, laser-cut metal panels can be specified as ceiling elements. Any geometry that can be drawn in a vector file can be cut to ±0.1mm tolerance, enabling bespoke ceiling patterns that are not achievable with standard punch die perforations.
Laser-cut ceiling panels are most commonly specified in aluminium (lightweight, suitable for suspension) or mild steel with powder coat (cost-effective for larger areas). They are used as feature ceiling panels in retail, hospitality, and corporate environments where the ceiling is a visible design element.
Supply Bay's laser cutting service handles sheets up to 3000mm × 1500mm, making it practical to produce large-format ceiling panels with consistent pattern registration across adjacent sheets.
Typical applications: feature ceiling zones in retail and hospitality fitouts, F&B interior design, corporate reception and lobby areas, hotel and serviced apartment common areas.
Specification Notes for Contractors and ID Firms
Grid compatibility. Supply Bay's ceiling mesh and perforated panels can be supplied in standard sizes (typically 1220mm x 2440mm) or cut to standard suspended ceiling grid module sizes (typically 600mm × 600mm or 600mm × 1200mm). Confirm panel dimensions and edge detail with your ceiling grid supplier before finalising the order.
Finish for Singapore's interior environment. For internal ceiling applications in air-conditioned commercial spaces, mill finish (aluminium) or standard polyester powder coat (mild steel or aluminium) is the appropriate specification. For transitional or semi-external spaces — covered walkways, external canopies, void deck soffits — select aluminium or hot-dip galvanised mild steel.
Lead times. Standard expanded mesh and perforated metal in stock specifications are available within 1–2 working days. Custom cut-to-size panels, powder coating, or non-standard patterns are typically ready within 1–2 weeks.
